How To

How to make Manhattan Cocktails that are truly exceptional

The Manhattan is the most popular cocktail in the world. Harry Craddock first described it in his book "The Savoy Bar Book" (1930). Mix equal quantities of sweet vermouth and dry vermouth with rye whiskey. Add ice cubes. Some people add bitters orange juice, maraschino Cherry, or Angostura bitters. The Manhattan recipe has many variations, such as the Old Fashioned.

Manhattan is a classic cocktail that's made with four ingredients. It's served in a chilled glass. The original recipe dates back to 1921, when it was known as the Four Deuces. It contained two measures each of whisky and rye, along with two measures each of gin. The original recipe is still very popular with bartenders as well as drinkers today.

Some prefer bourbon to rye and others prefer to drink brandy. However, both work equally well. You should use equal amounts of each ingredient in a Manhattan. You would use two shots each of rye and sweet vermouth. Four shots of dry vermouth is also recommended. Eight shots of vodka are sufficient. Mix all ingredients together and leave to sit for 15 minutes. Strain out the ice and serve. Serve with a maraschino Cherry or a twist from lemon peel.
